Who were the Missing 1490? – Michael Blanch tells us:

There was a land clearance assisted passage by the landlord of Strokestown, Mahon.

The 1490 people were marched from Strokestown to Dublin and then on to Liverpool for emigration to Canada.

An agent went all the way to Liverpool and made sure they got on the coffin ships they were in an awful condition, when he got back he reported everything went well they went quietly.

The names of these 1490 people were part of the 2014 NFMD in Strokestown when the Taoseach unveiled a wall in their memory with their names on it.  The school children read out their names at the Strokestown Commemoration last year.

The walk to Dublin is being recreated starting on Saturday and finishing Wedensday on the JJ Famine ship. Minister Humpherys will greet them on the JJ on Wedensday.

Michael Og is on the walk and I will do the last leg Maynooth to Dublin.

Strokestown and the Great Irish Famine by Ciaran Reilly is a new book for this info.
