From: Michael Blanch
Date: 7 April 2014
Subject: National Workhouse Conference.
The schedule for the conference is shown in a previous post.
Here are pertinent comments from Michael Blanch:
I will attend one of the days to speak with people at tea breaks or any opportunity that presents itself to get the Famine message out and give a voice to the voiceless.
I will pass on information at the Conference re Unmarked Famine Graves on the Island and it’s Islands and overseas. The CCIFV have a letter from Cardinal Brady asking all his Bishops to help in this worthy cause.
Where there is a Workhouse there is a mass Famine Grave.
We have received a Report from the HSE on all Workhouses in the HSE care. We are waiting to get permission from the HSE to mark any unmarked An Gorta Mor mass graves on HSE grounds.
The CCIFV will be receiving Bonnets representing the women/girls forced into exile from the Workhouses at the time of the Famine if acceptable to Portumna Workhouse Committee the CCIFV will donate a few of these Bonnets to Portumna Workhouse.
