National Famine Commemoration Day… Martin Curley

From: Martin Curley <>
Subject: National Famine Commemoration Day

Can I draw your attention to the National Famine Commemoration Day on May 11th in Strokestown, Co Roscommon

As a follow up to having the National Day as an annual event the Committee responsible for the original National Day of Commemoration are looking into having all sites associated with Famine graves suitably marked and recognised.

I would appreciate if you could let me know if you or someone that you know might be interested in assisting in this in your area.

It would involve you and others identifying local Famine Grave sites and then arranging to have a commemorative plaque located there A template of the plaque is available from the Committee or from Michael Blanch, the chair

Those who are in the Dublin area May 10th may wish to join with the CCIFV in their commemoration this year

Thanks for taking the time to read this and I hope that you pass this on to several others who also would be interested in ensuring that those who suffered during the Great Hunger will finally be given the respect and reverence due.

Is mise le meas

Martin Curley

PS    If there are Famine Commemoration events in your area please let me know

If there are none maybe one can be arranged ?
