The Tracton Community council wishes to draw your attention to a Famine Commemoration walk planned in this area on 22 June; Contact the e mail address below for a copy of the brochure which details the event, and the other Gathering events the Council has planned.
We will be most grateful if you will publicize these events as we hope to attract those who will be holidaying in Ireland this year and who might consider attending at one or other of the planned events – I will be very glad to supply any further information.

Walk in their Footsteps – 22 June
Famine Walk in memory of 124 desperate people, men,
women and children who on 22 June in 1850, abandoned
their Tracton homes and trekked 8 miles to the dreaded
workhouse in Kinsale (now the Community Hospital)
With ‘Soup Kitchens’ – refreshment stops – along the
way, walkers will follow the Famine route to the workhouse.
This is a sponsored walk, proceeds to St Vincent
de Paul and to the Tracton Community Council.
Sponsorship cards will be available from early May in
local shops and pubs. All invited – even for 1 mile.
