Public Meeting – ‘Great Hunger’ Memorial

Public Meeting – ‘Great Hunger’ Memorial

Thursday, April 4th., 2013, 7:00 PM

United Irish Cultural Center, 2700 45th Ave, San Francisco

In Ireland, the Great Famine was a period of mass starvation, disease and emigration between 1845 and 1852. A public meeting will be held on the 4th April at the Cultural Center to establish a committee to drive forward the creation of a Hunger Memorial in San Francisco.

The format of the meeting is as follows:

A well known Historian will discuss the historical context of the ‘Great Hunger’ in Ireland.

Margaret McPeake, PhD will speak on the impact the Famine had on Irish America and examine a number of the current famine memorials in the US.

We will elect a representative committee to drive the project forward.

Music and light refreshments.

We encourage everyone who is interested to attend and participate in what should be a lively debate.

Chifidh muid ansin sibh! – We’ll see you there!
