Athenry Joins the “Great Clean Up”

From Michael Blanch in Dublin
A circular went out to all County Councils and Town Councils to tidy the Famine (An Gorta Mor) graves in preparation for “The Gathering 2013” we are moving in the right direction.

A huge thank you, from the Irish Hunger Committee, to the people of Athenry, in County Galway, who are doing their part to make the “Great Clean Up” of Mass Graves happen.

The famous song “The Fields of Athenry” focuses on the tragedy of the Great Irish Hunger and it seems very pertinent (some might say an omen) that this group should be one of the early ones to join in the effort. All volunteer groups are encouraged to help.

Anyone who can help should contact:

And please forward this info to all your contacts.
