National Famine Commemoration – a timely reminder of the crisis in East Africa

gorta – the Freedom from Hunger Council of Ireland will tomorrow (Saturday, 10th September 2011) join the President of Ireland and patron of gorta, Mary McAleese, Jimmy Deenihan T.D., Minister for Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht, Carál Ní Chuilín, MLA, Minister of Culture, Arts and Leisure at the Northern Ireland Assembly, other dignitaries, community groups and local businesses in marking the National Famine Commemoration Day in Clones, Co Monaghan. The event reflects on An Gorta Mór (The Great Famine), from which gorta derives its name as well as reflecting on the hunger that still exists in the world today.
