RE:-    IRISH FAMINE VICTIMS & EMIGRANTS MEMORIAL DAY – AN GORTA MOR

Dear President Obama,

The Committee for the Commemoration of Irish Famine Victims would like to extend a Cead Mile Failte to you.

We are the group who campaigned for a National Famine Victims and Emigrants Memorial Day which the Irish Government blessed and granted in 2008.  Your ancestors left Ireland around the time of the Famine (An Gorta Mor).  Through starvation and death we lost more than half of our people over a very short period of time.  The contribution the Emigrants gave in building Communities and Countries all over the World, especially in America where most Emigrants went.  It would be greatly appreciated by the Irish people both home and abroad, it would also be fitting and right if you could spare a moment from your busy schedule to lay a wreath to remember and honour the Victims, Emigrants and Survivors of An Gorta Mor.

Attached is news clipping with the aim for international recognition for this catastrophe, if you could use your office and influence with the American Ambassador to the U.N. when this resolution comes before the Members of the U.N. General Assembly.

Is mise le meas.
