Irish Workhouses Book

Irish Workhouses Book

I got the book about the workhouses. The writer goes back to how they started in England and covers the subject well. In all, there were 114 Royal Commissions and 61 Special Committees of Enquiry set up and they reported on conditions in Ireland between 1800 and 1840. They were well aware of the desperate conditions of the Irish poor before the Hunger.

Ed Walsh is right about not having our history available in local libraries. Our taxes pay for these books and we should have access to them. All Irish organizations and members should check their libraries and make sure we are not being short changed.
