Commemoration Mass, Hollywood, Florida – To commemorate the Victims of the Great Hunger – An Gorta Mor. Organized by Marie Smith with help and cooperation from the priests in the parish – plus some very willing volunteers.

Here are the full details:

To commemorate the Victims of the Great Hunger – An Gorta Mor – who are buried in mass grave sites in Ireland and around the world. The Irish Government has officially designated a date each year and requests that the Irish Diaspora commemorate and also to bring awareness of this great watershed in Irish History and local world hunger by organizing events around the world.

Commemoration Mass, Hollywood, Florida

The Church of the Little Flower, 1805 Pierce Street, Hollywood, Florida.

Mass is on Sunday, March 27, 2011 at 3:00 p.m

After the Mass there will be the annual get together at The Field, 3281 Griffin Road, Dania Beach, Florida – Phone number is: 954-964-5979.

This Waking for the Victims of the Hunger will have free soup, music by “Echoes of Erin”, dancers, storytelling and The Irish Theatre Group.  This event is sponsored by the Irish American organizations of South Florida. 

In addition, Marie Smith will be speaking at  Nova University on the subject of the The Great Hunger.
