New National Famine Committee has been formed

News from Michael and Olivia Blanch in Dublin

The new National Famine Committee has been formed, some old faces and some new.    I have not been appointed to the new Committee.   Any further information in relation to the National Committee here is Orlaith and Mary’s email addresses  and  These ladies are officials who work in the Department.  Here is the website which gives a list of all the committee members

With the new Committee formed there should be an announcement shortly regarding the National Famine Memorial Day location date and time in Ulster.

Following an email to Mr. Sean Kelly MEP he contacted me and is willing to put a motion forward to the other MEP’s in the European Parliament to internationally acknowledge the National Famine Memorial Day and recognise the impact and legacy the Irish Famine (An Gorta Mor) had on the world.

We have lobbied all the MEP’s on the Island of Ireland looking for their support in this campaign.

  1. Hi Michael
Just seen your Photo in the Southside People. I have a great intrest in the Workhouses of Ireland. I have visited the location of all the Workhouses in Ireland over a 3 year period about 10 years ago. I have lost most of my records over the years. I was envolved with Ballybrack Scouts when we opened up the Workhouse Graveyard at the back of Loughlinstown Hospital in approx 1995 ( Rathdown Union Workhouse) I would love to meet you?.
